The Power Behind POWERHAUS
"We're building more than a studio. We're building a community."
— Brittany Betz Lauer, POWERHAUS Studio Founder
I’m Brittany Betz Lauer, founder and lead instructor of POWERHAUS Studio in Granger, Indiana — and if there’s one thing I want you to know, it’s that POWERHAUS was built from a very personal journey.
My relationship with fitness started about 15 years ago, after having my second child. I was a young mom with two little kids, navigating all the highs and lows that come with that season of life, and I needed something that made me feel stronger — physically, mentally, and emotionally.
For me, that something became movement.
I started as an avid runner and went on to complete 13 half marathons during my running era. I was a self-proclaimed cardio and HIIT queen — the harder, faster, and sweatier, the better.
And then I found Pilates.
I fell in love with the way Pilates complemented my strength training, so naturally, I wanted to learn everything I could. I became Balanced Body certified in both Reformer and Mat Pilates and started teaching locally.
But I quickly realized something:
I didn’t exactly fit the traditional Pilates mold.
I wanted to be challenged. I wanted heavier resistance. I wanted loud rap playlists, high-energy instructors, an upbeat room, and a community of people who weren’t worried about being perfect — they were there to work hard, have fun, and become a better version of themselves.
So that’s exactly how I taught.
And people loved it.
Then my body forced me to look at fitness differently.
About eight years ago, I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis, Sjögren’s syndrome, connective tissue autoimmune issues, and spinal stenosis. I knew that if I wanted to protect my joints, preserve my mobility, and continue doing the things I loved for decades to come, I needed to rethink what being “fit” actually meant.
After the birth of my youngest child in 2021, I decided it was time to truly invest in my health — not only for myself, but for my family. I hired a personal trainer who taught me how to strength train properly and effectively and how to use nutrition and macros as tools to fuel my body rather than simply eat less and move more.
That experience changed my life.
Having someone in my corner who was genuinely invested in helping me become stronger made me realize I wanted to do the same for other people. I wanted women to experience what it feels like to invest in themselves, take ownership of their health, and become stronger physically, mentally, and emotionally.
So I became a NASM Certified Personal Trainer, Group Fitness Instructor, and Nutrition Coach and began teaching strength, TRX, and bootcamp-style classes while also working one-on-one with clients.
I started taking Pilates classes everywhere I traveled — from major cities across the U.S. all the way to Portugal — constantly learning, studying different methods, and figuring out what I loved, what I didn’t, and where I belonged in the Pilates world.
That’s when I found modern strength Pilates.
In larger cities, I found studios built around the kind of workout I had been searching for: larger machines, heavier spring resistance, slow and controlled movement, and intentional time under tension designed to build, support, and maintain muscle. Think the intensity and energy found in concepts like Lagree, [solidcore], BODYROK, and a growing number of independent modern strength studios.
The music was loud. The instructors brought the energy. The workouts were challenging. Strength and Pilates finally existed in the same room.
I felt at home.
And I knew our community deserved to have it, too.
That’s how POWERHAUS was born.
POWERHAUS brings together everything I love about strength training and Pilates into one powerful 45-minute, full-body workout designed to challenge you while remaining low-impact on your joints. It’s intentional movement, heavier resistance, serious core work, time under tension, killer playlists, incredible instructors, and an environment where you can walk through the door exactly as you are.
But POWERHAUS is about more than a workout.
It’s about building a community of people who choose to invest in themselves. You don’t have to be the strongest person in the room. You don’t have to know what you’re doing when you walk through our doors. You just have to be willing to show up and work toward becoming 1% better every day.
POWERHAUS is the studio I spent years searching for.
When I couldn’t find it here, I decided to build it.
And when I’m not in the studio serving shakes and good times, you can usually find me Ubering one of my four kids around town or cheering them on at a sporting event, popping in to help at the other local business my husband and I own, online shopping for things I definitely don’t need, or grabbing a dirty soda to get my caffeine fix for the day.
I’m a big believer that life is busy, messy, fun, and meant to be lived — and taking care of yourself is what gives you the power to show up for all of it.
So when you see me in the studio, make sure you say hi. I can’t wait to meet you, learn your story, and welcome you into the POWERHAUS family and community we’re building together.
Come as you are. Leave stronger.
See you in the Haus,
Brittany
